A Gorgeous Getaway: Campbell River

Known as the Salmon Capitol of the World, Campbell River is a charming oceanside town on the east coast of Vancouver Island. With abundant wildlife and a thriving adventure and eco-tourism industry, your chances of seeing whales, eagles and salmon are almost guaranteed. First inhabited by the Island Comox and Coast Salish Peoples, the area became a top international sports fishing destination way back in the 1880s.

Our Hotel Location

Close to the 50th parallel road marker, our location is one of the many features which draw our guests back to our Best Western Austrian Chalet year after year. Access to both the South Island Highway and Inland Island Highway 19 couldn’t be easier. And just a few minutes away from the busy town centre, our hotel near the Campbell River Airport offers a quiet escape with gorgeous views of Discovery Passage.

Local Shopping in Campbell River

The Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre features large retail outlets, including Real Canadian Superstore, Staples and Canadian Tire, as well as locally owned and operated restaurants and shops, banks, and other services. You’ll also want to hit up Shopper’s Row, Campbell River’s downtown street shopping district, and the Pier Market, an open-air farmers’ market open every second Sunday from May to October, for some great finds.

Get A Breathe Of Fresh Air In Campbell River’s Great Outdoors

Top-rated excursions in the area include The Museum at Campbell River, and a whole host of outdoor adventure and eco-tourism excursions. Visitors also love to hike along the gorgeous waterfront trails just steps from our property; the daily-changing driftwood offers plenty of opportunities for artists and photographers, and captures the imagination of children and their small four-legged companions.
